Bedfordshire Naturalist 2010The Society's journal, The Bedfordshire Naturalist 2010, published in two parts, has recently been distributed to members. Part 1 covers species groups other than birds. Part 2 covers only birds. Non-members may purchase copies from Mary Sheridan or at a BNHS or Bird Club meeting.

Peter Geoffrey Taylor (1926-2011)Peter Taylor was a founding member of the BNHS, serving as Recorder for Vascular Cryptogams and Bryophytes from 1947 to 1952. He worked in Kew from 1948 until his retirement in 1986, in charge of the orchid section from 1972 to 1984. He published many papers including his great monograph on the bladderworts, The Genus Utricularia: A Taxonomic Monograph (1986) which runs to 736 pages. An obituary can be read here
Bernard Verdcourt (1925-2011)Bernard Verdcourt was one of the founding members of the BNHS in 1946, aged just 21. He immediately took a position on Council and the responsibilities of County Recorder for the varied groups of Mollusca, Hemiptera, Emphemeroptera and Neuroptera only vacating the latter in 2003. His contributions to the society are chronicled in Bedfordshire Naturalist from its first edition in 1946 right into the 21st century. An obituary written by his Kew colleagues can be read here

BNHS Records on the NBN GatewayDid you know that the BNHS in partnership with the BRMC has put over 520,000 species records onto the NBN Gateway, and that you can interrogate them via the NBN Gateway's website?
